Michael Fazi – Logistics Coordinator
Michael (he/him) is a higher education professional with a background in Title IX, student conduct, and community engagement. Michael currently serves as the Assistant Director for Title IX at Vanderbilt University, Michael’s responsibilities include conducting investigations into sexual misconduct and sex discrimination, coordinating annual policy review and compliance, advising campus partners, and managing the office’s university-wide training initiative. Michael also serves as a faculty member for Vanderbilt’s First Year Experience course. Michael has previously worked as a Title IX Investigator and a Community Standards Graduate Fellow.
Committed to professional development, Michael is an active member of the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA). He currently serves on the Title IX Working Group and co-chairs the Conduct Professionals with JDs Community of Practice. Michael has presented at multiple national and state conferences on topics including investigation management, employee attrition in higher education, motivational interviewing, and bystander intervention.
Michael received his B.A. in Politics cum laude from the University of Dallas, his Master of Education in Higher Education from Merrimack College, and his Juris Doctorate cum laude from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Katy Larkin – Facilitator
Katy (she/her) serves as the senior director of Student Accountability & Conflict Response. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the University’s Student Code of Conduct and the student and student organizational conduct processes at the University Park campus as well as at the 23 additional campuses across the commonwealth and online. Katy also represents Penn State Student Affairs on multiple interdisciplinary teams and committees, including the Behavioral Threat Management Team, the Student Care Team, the Anti-Hazing Committee, and the Expressive Speech Committee.
Katy has worked in student affairs for nearly 15 years. Before Penn State, she served as the assistant dean of students and director of Student Conduct and Community Standards at the University of Oregon. At the University of Oregon, Katy led the creation and implementation of a new student conduct code and standard operating procedures for addressing student misconduct. Before her work at the University of Oregon, Katy worked in residence life at Eastern Oregon University and the University of Nevada, Reno and in student conduct at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Katy received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Oregon and her master’s degree in higher education leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Carly (she/her) is the Associate Director for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution at Rochester Institute of Technology. In her role at RIT, Carly serves as the primary lead on all student conduct cases with possible Title IX or sexual misconduct violations and serves on the case management team. Additionally, she serves as a hearing officer for high-level student conduct cases, as well as Title IX and sexual misconduct cases. Prior to arriving at RIT, Carly was the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Boston College and served on the Title IX steering committee and served on the administrative hearing board for high-level student conduct cases. Carly is currently pursuing her Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership at Regis College.
Kristi Patrickus – Facilitator
Kristi is a dedicated attorney with a diverse background in higher education law and advocacy. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon in 2021 and is licensed to practice in Missouri and Oregon.
Currently serving as the Student Advocacy Program Attorney at the University of Oregon, Kristi provides comprehensive legal guidance to students and organizations navigating disputes with the university, including student conduct and Title IX cases. Currently, Kristi is the only full-time, university-employed attorney on any college campus providing these free legal services to students. Kristi also operates a part-time consultancy firm where she provides a range of services for attorneys, student organizations, and colleges and universities.
Previously, Kristi held pivotal roles at the University of Oregon Office of Student Conduct, managing complex cases and contributing to policy development. Her legal acumen extends to her clerkships at the Lane County, Oregon Office of Legal Counsel and the ACLU of Tennessee, where she honed her skills in constitutional law and litigation support.
Kristi remains actively engaged in legal education and advocacy, contributing to professional publications and presenting at conferences nationwide on topics ranging from due process in higher education to Title IX regulations. She is a member of several professional associations and continues to shape the landscape of student rights and legal protections in educational settings.
Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. – Facilitator
Alyssa (she/her) serves as the Assistant Dean of Students for Conduct and Policy at the University of Houston main campus. In her role, Ms. Veteto is a hearing officer for individual and student organization conduct proceedings and serves on the Sexual Misconduct Response Team, collaborating on investigations, proceedings, and sanctioning for Title IX, Sexual Misconduct, and Anti-Discrimination cases at the University. Previously, she served as an investigator and as a confidential resource in Sexual Misconduct/Title IX support services at Austin College, as well as in conduct and residence life roles at the University of Houston and Southern Methodist University.
Ms. Veteto holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice Performance and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, specialized in Higher Education Policy Studies, both from SMU.
